Frequently asked questions
Materials, connections, and where Shiftkey belongs in your build.
Does Shiftkey use a Stream Deck?
Yes. Shiftkey uses a Stream Deck for its display and keys. A custom PCB controls the outputs and handles image uploads over Wi-Fi.
What is the case made of?
The case is made from ASA-CF (carbon-fiber-reinforced ASA), chosen for its temperature stability and UV resistance for use inside a vehicle.
How much current can the 12V outputs provide?
The 12V outputs are designed to drive relay coils, with a maximum of 1 amp per output. They can also be used for compatible ECU digital inputs.
Do not use these outputs to power lights or other accessories directly. Use a suitable external relay to switch the accessory load.
What are the 0–5V circuits used for?
Available on Pro and Ultimate, these circuits use a 5V reference and sensor return from an ECU to provide a clean signal. They are commonly used to emulate a rotary selector for ECU settings such as boost control, engine maps, and traction-control levels.
Is Shiftkey weatherproof for open off-road use?
No. Shiftkey is intended for interior cabin use. Although the Stream Deck keys are sealed against the frame, the complete unit is not intended for water exposure or extreme dust conditions. It is not suitable for exposed installations in open off-road vehicles.
